AFFIDAVITS OF DEATH 1877 to 1958 (Volumes #1 through #36). This series lists the name of the deceased, the township or city where they lived, the date and time of death, and the name of the administrator or executor. These are indexed online.

BIRTH RECORDS 1852 - 1853 These are indexed online.

 

BIRTH RECORDS from 1893 to 1906. (Everything after 1906 is with the PA Dept. of Health, Division of Vital Records, P.O. Box 1528, New Castle, PA 16103 or by phone (724) 656-3100). This register was prepared from information returned by the assessors.  This series list the following information:  date recorded, child’s name, sex, race, date and place of birth, names and address of parents and the father’s occupation. Birth records are indexed online.

BOND BOOKS AA through 5H (1794 to 1968).  Earlier bonds can be found in the estate files.

 

CHARTERS INDEX 1841 TO 1958.  Charters are recorded in the Deed Books, but indexed separately.

CLERK OF COURTS DOCKETS 1749 to 1989 (10B). PAPERS 1752 (very few prior to 1851) to 1998 AND  INDEXES 1830 to 1989.  After 1980 the records are indexed on computer.

CLERK OF COURTS MISC. PAPERS 1767 TO 1996. Petitions and other papers from individuals, organizations, townships, boroughs, and school districts requesting court action on various issues.

 

COMMISSIONERS MINUTES 1873 TO 1987.

 

CORRESPONDENCE FOR BIRTH RECORDS PRIOR TO 1906.  In 1941, many people had to have proof of their birth in order to keep or find jobs during World War II. These letters requesting birth certificates often supplied information on births not recorded in county records. Many of the letters document births prior to 1893. They are not an official birth record.  This series is indexed online

 

DEATH RECORDS 1852 - 1853. Indexed online.

 

DEATH RECORDS from 1893 to 1906. (Everything after 1906 is with the PA Dept. of Health, Division of Vital Records, P.O. Box 1528, New Castle, PA 16103 or by phone (724) 656-3100). This register was prepared from information returned by the assessors.  This series lists the following information:  name of the deceased, race, sex, age, marital status, place of birth, occupation, date of death, place of death, cause of death, duration of last illness, place and date of interment.  If the deceased was a minor their parents’ names are listed. This record series is indexed online.

DEED BOOKS A through 40Q (1749 to 1955) and INDEXES from 1749 to 1943. We do not copy from original deed books.  For copies other than the books we have on microfilm, please contact the Recorder of Deeds Office. We are currently in the process of microfilming both the Deed Books and indexes. Deed indexes from 1749-1912 are indexed online.

DELAYED BIRTHS – Delayed Birth Certificates were authorized by a law passed in the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1941 to provide proof of birth for persons who were born prior to 1906 and who needed this information in order to apply for benefits under the Social Security Act.  These are indexed online.

DENTISTS REGISTRY 1883 - 1952. This series in indexed online.

 

ESTATE FILES* from 1749 to 1967. (These files contain the original records for the deceased such as the original will, admin acct., inventory, vendue list, etc.) Estate files from 1959-1967 are indexed online.

LIQUOR LICENSE BONDS 1855-1857, 1 bond for 1877 and 1886. These bonds list the name of the person(s) applying for the liquor license and bond, the township or boro, the date, amount of bond, and their signatures. .  These are indexed online.

 

MARRIAGE RECORDS 1852 - 1853 This series in indexed online

 

MARRIAGE RECORDS* from 1885 through #45316 of 1929. Both marriage license and application. Dockets A through 2Z (1929). These are indexed online.

MORTGAGE BOOKS R (1842) through 15Z(1951). Mortgages prior to 1842 were recorded in the Deed Books and indexed in the Deed Indexes.

ORPHANS’ COURT DOCKETS AND RECORDS* Papers from 1749 to 1928. In many cases the Orphans’ Court Papers are found in estate files. Dockets A (1749) through 11C2 (1973). INDEXES 1749 to 1958.

PARTITION DOCKETS 1890 to 1954 (Dockets A through E). This series deals with real estate partitions under the jurisdiction of the Orphans Court and is indexed through the Orphans Court.

ROAD DOCKETS 1749 to 1964 (Docket #36), PAPERS 1749 to 1990 and INDEXES 1749 to 1933. ROAD SUPERVISORS DOCKETS 1S & 2S 1950-1972. (Both books are indexed in the front and are the last dockets kept.) ROAD SUPERVISORS INDEX 1972-2002.  ROAD SUPERVISORS PAPERS 1950 to the present.

 

SHERIFF’S DEED BOOKS 1874 to 1905. GRANTOR AND GRANTEE SHERIFF’S DEED INDEX 1800 to  c.1915. For Sheriff’s Deeds prior to the Sheriff’s Deed Books, the index will refer to Appearance and Common Pleas Dockets and Common Pleas Misc. Dockets where the early Sheriff sales were recorded.

SOLDIERS’AND PEDDLERS’ LICENSES 1784-1989.  Peddlers’ licenses were issued to disabled veterans without cost. This record series is indexed online.

 

STALLION REGISTER PAPERS 1894-1907.  These papers list the name of the agent or owner; their signature; register number; name of horse; physical description and lineage of the animal; breeding fees and terms; and signature of the Clerk of Courts. These are indexed online.
